At House of Stewart Gardens we believe passionately that our gardens should enhance our lives and the natural world around us.
We help homeowners with an eye for design unlock the potential in their garden and transform it into a life-enhancing space.
We design for aesthetic appeal, emotional wellbeing and biodiversity enhancement. We use materials, planting, texture, light and scent to create atmospheric, wildlife rich spaces that transform how we feel.

House of Stewart Gardens was founded by Ben Stewart following a 20 year career as a brand strategist and professional training at London College of Garden Design in garden and planting design.
That combination of creative thinking and practical garden design training influences the way we approach every project looking not only at how a garden should look, but how it should feel, function and relate to the architecture and people around it.
Based in Surrey, House of Stewart Gardens works on projects ranging from contemporary residential gardens to large country gardens, challenging sloping sites and gardens incorporating swimming pools.
As a small studio, clients work directly with Ben throughout the process, creating a personal and consistent design experience from the first conversation through to completion.

Step 1: The brief
After an initial consultation where we talk through what you are looking for, we produce a simple brief to summarise our discussion and explain the process and design costs.

Step 2: Masterplan design
Before we begin developing a design we do a thorough site analysis and commission a topographical survey if required.
Then the design work begins. Based on our agreed brief we develop a design concept, mood board and a masterplan design for your garden. This will be brought to life with 3D visuals.

Step 3: Detail drawings
We then produce the detailed drawings required to bring the design to life including planting design plans, and construction drawings.
This is essential for a landscaper to understand the design in detail to be able to cost the project accurately.

Step 4: The build
We work alongside the landscaper monitoring the progress of the project and working together to deliver the garden design.

We see every project as an opportunity to enrich the local environment as well as create a beautiful place to live.
Wherever appropriate, we look for ways to increase biodiversity through considered planting, habitat creation and wildlife-friendly features, while selecting materials responsibly and designing planting that is appropriate for the conditions of the site.
We also consider water use, resilience and long-term maintenance so that the garden can mature successfully rather than relying on intensive intervention.

House of Stewart Gardens combines a personal, one-to-one design service with a considered approach to space, planting and detail.
Every garden is designed individually rather than adapted from a house style.
Whether the project involves a challenging sloping site, a large country garden, a contemporary urban space or a garden centred around a swimming pool, the objective is the same: to create a garden that transforms the lives of the people who live there.

We are a Surrey-based garden design studio creating bespoke gardens tailored to our clients, their homes and the way they want to live. We offer a complete landscape design service, from initial ideas and masterplans through to planting plans, construction drawings and project monitoring.
Most projects begin with an initial consultation, followed by site analysis, concept design and a masterplan. Depending on the project, we can then develop detailed construction drawings, planting plans, lighting plans and specifications.
Fees depend on the size and complexity of the project and the level of design work required. Following an initial discussion, we provide a clear proposal outlining the scope and fees before any work begins.
No, but having an approximate range is helpful. It allows us to design realistically and advise where your investment will have the greatest impact.
Timescales vary depending on the scale of the project and the level of detail required. A full garden design typically develops over several weeks, with larger or more complex projects taking longer.
We primarily work across Reigate, Redhill, wider Surrey, Kent, Sussex and the South East, but can consider projects further afield depending on the scope and location.
We work on gardens and outdoor spaces of all sizes, from smaller urban and suburban spaces including front and rear gardens to large country gardens and multi-acre sites. Not every project requires a complete redesign. We can focus on a specific area such as a terrace, front garden, pool area, planting scheme or entertaining space.
Yes. We offer planting design as a standalone service, whether you are refreshing existing borders or creating entirely new planting schemes.
Yes. We offer an in-person or online, 90 minute consultation to discuss your garden and where you need help. We then follow-up with a written summary capturing the conversation and our key points of advice for garden planning as well as next steps.
Yes. We work with a trusted network of landscapers, nurseries, suppliers and specialist contractors and can help clients identify the right people for their project. We then provide project monitoring during construction, helping ensure the design intent is maintained and supporting both the client and contractor as questions arise.
We deliberately remain a small studio so we can provide a highly personal service.
One of the benefits of working with House of Stewart Gardens is that clients deal directly with Ben throughout the project, from the first conversation through to completion.
Simply get in touch with a few details about your garden, what you would like to achieve and your location. We can then arrange an initial conversation to discuss the project and the best next steps.
Any time of year can work, but starting in autumn or winter can be particularly useful because it allows time for the design and contractor planning to be completed ahead of spring.
